    Non-Construction Permit Types

    Below is a listing, in alphabetical order, of our most common non-construction type projects.  Download a In the detailed list, we have attempted to provide you with basic, general information about our requirements, fees, length and type of reviews as well as special considerations you should take into account.  This is by no means meant to replace the assistance a plans examiner or planner can provide, so please call the appropriate section for clarifications or specific questions.

  • CAR WASH (temporary) 
    Type of permit(s) applications:  Zoning Permit 
    Type of review: Over-the-Counter
    Length of review: Same day
    Submittal Requirements: Site plan showing location of car wash.  Two sets of drawings are required.  Written summary of hours, dates and parking impacts. Review zoning code section 17.50.180. 
    Special Considerations: Car washes must be conducted by a qualifying sponsoring organization and on non-residential properties. They shall not occur on a site more than four times per calendar year and may not operate for a continuous period of more than 72 hours.

    CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY: SALE OF HOME 
    Type of permit(s) applications: Certificate of Occupancy 
    Type of review: Inspection
    Length of review: One inspection, must schedule two weeks in advance.
    Submittal Requirements: Fee required prior to inspection.
    Special Considerations:

    DONATION FACILITY 
    Type of permit(s) applications: Zoning Permit 
    Type of review: Over-the-Counter
    Length of review: Same day
    Submittal Requirements: A Variance or Final Zoning Inspection may be required.  Project may be subject to Design Review.

    GARAGE/YARD SALE 
    Type of permit(s) applications: Yard Sale Permit / Obtain a Permit Online 
    Type of review: Mail in / Over-the-Counter / Online 
    Length of review: Same day
    Submittal Requirements:  
    Special Considerations: Only two yard sale permits allowed per year, per property.

    GRANDSTANDS 
    Type of permit(s) applications: Building Permit 
    Type of review: Over-the-Counter
    Length of review: One day
    Submittal Requirements: Site Plan and Structural Details
    Special Considerations: Review the municipal code chapter 3.12 for further information
    Fees: Based on number of seats. Please call 744-4200 for more information.

    HOME BASED BUSINESS 
    Type of permit(s) applications: Home Occupation Permit 
    Type of review: Inspection
    Length of review: One inspection
    Submittal Requirements: Fee required prior to inspection.  Must have a business license or can apply for one at the same time applying for a home occupation permit. 
    Special Considerations: Renewal required

    SEASONAL/OTHER TEMPORARY SALES 
    Type of permit(s) applications: Zoning Permit 
    Type of review: Over-the-Counter
    Length of review: Same day
    Submittal Requirements: Site plan showing location of sales. Two sets of drawings are required.  Written summary of type of sales, hours, dates and parking impacts. Review zoning code section 17.50.180. 
    Special Considerations:

    TEMPORARY TENTS/CANOPIES 
    Type of permit(s) applications: Temporary Tent/Canopy Permit Application 
    Type of review: Over-the-Counter
    Length of review: Same day, unless subject to Special Considerations.
    Submittal Requirements: Site plan showing the location of tent(s) in relation to the surrounding property and a certificate of flame resistance (generally provided by tent installer). 
    Special Considerations: Tents smaller than 100 square feet do not require a permit (however, small tents may not be tied together to create a larger tent in an effort to avoid permitting). Information shall first be reviewed by Zoning, then Fire where the permit will be issued. Zoning may require a Temporary Conditional Use Permit for a tent due to its location (in this case, information will be submitted to Zoning - once the application has been approved, materials will be mailed to the applicant, and he or she will return to the Permit Center to complete the permitting process with Fire)

    VEHICLE DETAIL (small scale) 
    Type of permit(s) applications: Zoning Permit 
    Type of review: Over-the-Counter
    Length of review: Same day
    Submittal Requirements: Site plan showing location of detailing. Two sets of drawings are required. Review of zoning code section 17.50.290.
    Special Considerations: A Variance, Conditional Use Permit and/or Final Zoning Inspection may be required.
