Grants/Awards/Fund Raising Activities

 
 


A portion of the project funding for the seismic upgrade and rehabilitation of Pasadena City Hall will be raised by the City of Pasadena through a combination of grant awards and fund-raising activities/souvenirs.

GRANTS

Throughout the duration of the project,  the city actively pursued all available federal, state, local and foundation grant opportunities in order to offset the project construction costs.  The City was successful, to date, in securing a total of $10,595,414 in grant funding through the following agencies:

  • Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) - Hazard Mitigation Program Grant  (HMPG): $6,695,414

  • California Heritage Fund Grant (CHF): $100,000

  • FEMA 2005 Pre Disaster Mitigation Grant (PDM): $3,000,000    

  • California Cultural and Historical Endowment Grant (CCHE) 2006: $800,000

Following completion, the City of Pasadena has received numerous awards for the City Hall Project from the design, preservation and construction industries including the following:

2008

  • Aon Build America National Awards- Merit Award : Pasadena City Hall Project. Associated General Contractors of America (AGC). March 2008

  • Project Achievement Award Winner - Pasadena City Hall Seismic Rehabilitation Project.  Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) Southern California Chapter .  April 2008

  • 2008 Preservation Award: Pasadena City Hall Seismic Upgrade and Rehabilitation  - Los Angeles Conservancy  May 2008

  • Opal 'Project of the Year' Award - Merit Award: American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)  April 2008. 

  • 2008 Constructor Awards - Winner: "Excellence in Construction Techniques or Materials" Associated General Contractors of California, April 2008

  • APWA  'Project of the Year Award'  American Public Works Association ceremony scheduled at APWA's 2008 International Public Works Congress on August 18, 2008

  • Chairman's Heritage Award 2008. Pasadena Beautiful Foundation.  Award ceremony to be held May 29, 2008

  • Planning Landmark Award. Los Angeles Section of the American Planning Associatrion (LA-APA).  Award ceremony June 17, 2008.

NEWS/PRESS

The City Hall project has been the subject of television reports on both local and national news stations, including a segment on KTLA Channel 5 on Earthquake preparedness in 2006  and the City Hall project in 2007.  Most recently, on May 19, 2008, the project was featured on MSNBC Nightly News with Brian Williams.  To view this video, please click on the video link below.

City Hall Souvenirs Help Pave the Way

From postcards and key chains to t-shirts and cloisonné pins, all proceeds from the sale of official city souvenirs were targeted to help fund the city hall project.
