The Womens Issues office
works to empower women in the
greater Pasadena area and the women
City employees through the provision
of information, resources and
networking opportunities. The
Women’s Issues office coordinates
its efforts with the Pasadena
Commission on the Status of Women,
the Friends of the Commission on the
Status of Women and local women’s
organizations.
The Women’s Issues Office provides
local agencies with program
coordination as needed and acts as a
resource center. In addition the
office provides workshops directly
and in collaboration with other
organizations on financial planning,
fair housing, health, employment,
domestic violence awareness, sexual
harassment awareness, violence in
relationships, assaults against
women, pay equity, higher education,
and entrepreneurship.
The City Board of Directors
established the Pasadena Commission
on the Status of Women on May 31,
1977. The Commission serves as an
advisory body to City Council with
ten members. Each member serves
on a volunteer basis and is a City
resident. Membership is limited to
Pasadena residents who "possess
knowledge or ability in areas having
significant bearing on sex
discrimination or possess leadership
qualities in community activities
affecting the general welfare of
women in the City of Pasadena." The
Commission is currently reviewing
issues affecting women in the areas
of education, health, leadership,
prejudice and discrimination,
legislation and women in the
workplace.
The Commission holds monthly
meetings on the second
Monday of the month at various locations. Meetings are open to the public.
