What is it?


This multi-function computer lab is designed for both students and adults to use. For students, there are a variety of learning experiences available, as well as links to information for research and projects. For adults, in addition to the above, there are also databases of grants and an interactive life skills aid. The multi-media workstations provide access to encyclopedias and other educational software that promotes reading, language, math, social studies and computer skills. Additionally, all of the library's electronic resources are available, including catalogs of materials available for use throughout Pasadena and Glendale Public libraries.

The Technology Learning Center is in the northwest part of the La Pintoresca Branch Library.

 

When is it open?

Lab hours:
For careers/jobs/FC Search only:
Mon. - Thu. 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.;
Sat. 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
For careers/jobs/Career Friday events only:
Fri. 10 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.
For children only:
Mon. - Thu. 2 p.m. - 6:45 p.m.
For the general public:
Sat. 1 p.m.  - 5:45 p.m.;
Sun. 1 p.m. - 4:45 p.m.

During their dedicated Lab hours, children and teens may sign up for a maximum of one hour per day.  During Lab hours dedicated to careers, jobs, and FC Search, Internet use is limited to those resources. Other public computers are available at the site for adults to use for general Internet searching and other needs.

 

How can I use it?


To use the Technology Learning Center on your own, just come in and sign up on the day you want to use it.

You can sign up for up to one hour per day. There is no charge for the use of the computers, but there is a charge of 10 cents per page of printing.

 

What is available for use?

Each of the ten computer stations is loaded with resources and software, including the following:

The Library Catalog, showing the holdings of all the Pasadena and Glendale Public Libraries.

InfoTrac, an online index of magazine and newspaper articles, some of which can be downloaded as full text, others permitting you to find printed sources.

1. Jump Start and Math Blaster - grade-appropriate educational games to help pre-k through 6th grade students develop math and reading comprehension skills;

2. Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing;

3. The Rosetta Stone - a vocabulary building and reading comprehension program for English learners;

4. Microsoft Office 2003, which includes Word and Excel

5. Shortcuts to various subscription databases and websites, including CQ Researcher, California Birth and Death Records, Pasadena News Index, Reference U.S.A., many others;

6. FC Search 10.0 - The Foundation Center's database of grantmakers, searchable by name or field of interest or browsable.

7. Life Skills Resources - interactive program for adults with learning differences about how to negotiate various social and business situations.

8. FDIC Money Smart - computer-based training to foster financial education in areas such as banking, checking/savings accounts, credit and loans.


In addition to the computer lab, La Pintoresca now offers free wireless Internet access
