Hill Avenue Branch and Neighborhood History Hill Avenue Branch serves an area bounded on the north by Orange Grove Boulevard, Lake Avenue on the west, city boundary on the south, and Oak and Allen Streets on the east. The area has two distinct neighborhoods separated by a corridor of businesses running east and west along Walnut Street and Colorado Boulevard. There is a largely Hispanic neighborhood between the north boundary and the 210 freeway. South of the freeway to Green Street are automotive repair businesses, other small businesses, fast food restaurants, churches, as well as Pasadena City College. From Green Street to the south boundary, the area is largely residential, containing St. Philip's church and school, Caltech and Polytechnic School. There are numerous preschools in the service area, five of which receive services from the library. Three elementary schools (Jefferson, Odyssey Charter School, and St. Philip's) have classes visiting the library during the school year. Hill Branch can be reached by public transportation via MTA routes 177,181, 256 and 686, as well as Foothill routes 187 and 189, Pasadena ARTS bus route 10, as well as via the Gold Line, using the Allen station and the bus connections there. Located directly across the street from Pasadena City College, the branch is home to the system's Asian language collection, which has a growing community of library users.
