La Pintoresca ("the picturesque") Branch Library, built in 1930, was named for the hotel which had previously occupied its northwest Pasadena site. Its parkland location centers La Pintoresca in the most highly populated service area of any Pasadena Branch. Pasadena Reads/Literacy Tutors

Pasadena Reads is the Pasadena Library's program which is part of the California Literacy Campaign.  Funded in part by a grant from the California State Library, Pasadena Reads' goal is to provide basic one-on-one literacy instruction for English Speaking adults in the Pasadena area. The instruction is provided by volunteer tutors who have completed a 12-hour tutor training course. The services of Pasadena Reads are provided free of charge to any adult (over age 17). Speakers of other languages are also encouraged to enroll in our program once they have mastered basic spoken English. For more information call (626) 744-4034.

For special and holiday programs, call (626) 744-7268. Or, for more information about programs here and throughout the Pasadena Public Library, you can visit our Community Calendar.
