Instant Lessons

The Letter
Give your learner a short paragraph from a discarded magazine or newspaper. Choose a letter of the alphabet and have your learner find and circle that letter throughout the paragraph. Talk about the different sounds the same letter can make depending on its placement. Use some of the words for sight words.

All Around Town
Ask your learner to make a list of various places she visits regularly. Under each location, list various words or phrases associated with that location. For example, if your learner goes to the bank, you might help her write down some banking terms like ATM, deposit slip, balance, withdrawal, etc. Look those words up in the dictionary. Use them for spelling and language experience stories.
