Hillary Jordan’s debut novel Mudbound received the 2006 Bellwether Prize for Fiction, a prize founded by Barbara Kingsolver to reward books of conscience, social responsibility, and literary merit, as well as the 2009 Alex Award from the American Library Association and was named one of the Ten Best Debut Novels of the Decade by Paste Magazine. Jordan grew up in Texas and Oklahoma. She received her MFA in Creative Writing from Columbia University, and a BA in English and Political Science from Wellesley College. Her short fiction has appeared in numerous literary journals, including StoryQuarterly and The Carolina Quarterly. She lives in New York.

Ms. Jordan will join Library Director Jan Sanders in dialogue as they discuss her experience first envisioning and then writing Mudbound. A question and answer session from the audience will follow.
