Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Program Mission Statement
The Volunteer Program at the Pasadena Public Library enhances the high quality of service delivered to the community.  We value our volunteers for the support they provide staff in achieving the mission and goals of the Library.

Descriptions of Assignments

Centennial Room Volunteers maintain local history notebooks, catalog photographs, check out and re-file materials, and other related activities.

Clerical Assistants work behind the scenes at all library locations barcoding library cards, photocopying, word processing and providing general office assistance.

Collection Maintenance volunteers clean, sort, check and shelve materials. Volunteers may also process paperbacks, cover books, process magazines, and other tasks.

Computer Instructors teach classes in the Technology Learning Center on subjects such as Surfing the World Wide Web, Sending and Receiving E-mail and Make Your Own Website.

Computer Coaches assist Computer Instructors during the classes.

Technology Learning Center volunteers staff the Lab during public hours assisting patrons with the use of computers and printer.

Data Entry Assistants enter information into computer databases, such as Pasadena Community Information and others.

Program Assistants at the Branches help the Librarians make sure children and others enjoy library programs.  Activities include preparing craft activities, pulling books for displays, setting up and cleaning up, and monitoring the Summer Reading Club Desk.

VOLUNTEENS are youths (12-18 years) who assist the Library, especially during the summer months, with different projects in various departments.  A Parental Release & Waiver will be required. Call Young Adult Librarian at (626) 744-4766 for more information.

Customer Assistants serve the public directly as Adult Literacy Tutors, Architectural Tour Guides, Central Library Directional Assistants, Tax Center/Copy Center Assistants and in the Service to the Homebased
