What is it? | What else does
it do? Cultural passport provides arts and learning opportunities for young people through a partnership of the Pasadena Public Library, the Light-Bringer organization and the Pasadena Unified School District. The program is designed to create access to the arts through a variety of educational experiences and technologies in and out of school. The Cultural Passport program brings arts and learning experiences to the Pasadena Public Library. Middle school and high school groups are brought to learn from creative professionals in the visual arts, music, dance, theater, photography, film and video, architecture, design, technology and the literary arts. Students are also introduced to various arts-related resources at the library. In addition, students become involved in special creative programs, such as the ones who took part in a special poetry workshop. Cultural institutions offer guest speakers, information, field trips and free and/or reduced admissions at their locations (examples are listed above). Organizations that have assisted the Cultural Passport Program include: Animaction America, Inc., Art Center College of Design, Caltech Public Events, East L.A. Classic Theater, Huntington Library & Art Gallery, Institute for Urban Research & Development, KidSpace, Latino Cultural Academy, Luckman Fine Arts Complex at Cal State L.A., Pacific Asia Museum, Pacific Oaks College, Pasadena Dance Theater, Pasadena Historical Museum, Pasadena Symphony, Archives of American Art at the Smithsonian Museum, Southwest Chamber Music, and the Visual Arts & Design Academy. Teachers are supported by Cultural Passport.
Participating faculty members are provided with current arts educational materials and
cultural program opportunities. A "Teacher Lab" and hands-on artmaking
demonstrations and workshops connect library, arts and learning experiences with classroom
language arts goals. 28 March 2007 |
