Conference Center Expansion

(Downtown Redevelopment Project Area, Civic Center/Mid-Town District)
Project includes the expansion of existing Pasadena Center
Facilities. Project is phased. Phase 1 includes the removal of
Mishima Plaza and construction of a new 55,653 square feet 55,653 square
feet ballroom core and shell for use as a temporary exhibit hall.
Phase 2 includes demolition of the westernmost Exhibit Hall (48,565 square
feet) and construction of a new 160,768 square feet Exhibit Hall.
Phase 3 will include completion of the Phase 1 Ballroom and renovation of
the existing conference center east of the Civic Auditorium and
landscaping the inner courts of the project. Project also includes
rehabilitation of the Civic Auditorium forecourt to its original
condition, removal of the Ice Skating Rink and rehabilitating this to the
original Ballroom area. Areas of the existing 850 space garage will
be demolished and replaced to provide a total of 1,030 parking spaces on
site.

Approvals |
Application for Predevelopment Plan Review submitted on October
21, 2002. EIR scoping session for public
comments held on January 23, 2003. Preliminary reviews of
the project design held by City Center Task Force on July 22,
2003 and Design Commission on July 28, 2003. Project
reviewed for comments on EIR by Planning Commission in August
2003. PCOC terminated contract with previous architect and
has hired new architect. City Council approved the change
on December 15, 2003.
