Pasadena will be overflowing with art.
in all its forms during Pasadena Art Weekend from Friday to Sunday, Oct. 13 to
15, at museums, galleries, concert halls, shops, restaurants, courtyards and
sidewalks.
ArtNight Pasadena will open the weekend Friday, Oct. 13, when a dozen Pasadena
cultural institutions open their doors free of charge from 6 to 10 p.m. Take in
a rich sampling of remarkable art, artifacts and music. Collaborating venues
(with free shuttles in between!) include Armory Center for the Arts, Art Center
College of Design, Norton Simon Museum of Art, Pacific Asia Museum, Pasadena
City College, Pasadena Symphony and more. A seven-year partnership among our
cultural institutions, Pasadena Arts & Culture Commission and the Cultural
Affairs Division of the Pasadena Planning and Development Department, Pasadena
ArtNight takes place twice a year.
On Saturday, Oct. 14, Pasadena Playhouse District presents ArtWalk from 11 a.m.
to 7 p.m. During this free outdoor event near the famed Pasadena Playhouse and
Laemmle Playhouse movie complex, you'll see hundreds of works by local artists
and enjoy great food, entertainment and more.
Pasadena Art+Design Open Market at One Colorado on Sunday, Oct. 15, from 10 a.m.
to 5 p.m. will focus exclusively on works by students, faculty and alumni from
Art Center College of Design, Pasadena City College and Armory Center for the
Arts. Admire or purchase masterpieces by emerging artists, illustrators,
ceramicists and the next generation of environmental and industrial designers.
Save some gas and make your trip a breeze by taking a Pasadena ARTS bus, Metro
Gold Line or a regional bus line to one or all of the events! For more
information about Pasadena Art Weekend, visit
www.pasadenaart.org or call 795-9311.
Soon you will have an easy
new way to avoid an overnight parking ticket.
Starting in early October, look for five new pay stations, or kiosks, throughout
Pasadena where you can buy a $3 temporary (short-term) overnight parking
exemption.
Each new pay station will accept coins, bills and credit cards, and will
dispense a receipt for display on your dashboard. (You will no longer be able to
call in for an exemption!)
Parking has been banned on city streets from 2 to 6 a.m. for the past 50 years,
making it easier to clean streets, spot abandoned vehicles and spot criminals.
Watch for more information on kiosk locations in October call 744-6470
or at
www.cityofpasadena.net/trans.
Long-term or annual overnight parking permits are available at 280 Ramona St.
while City Hall is closed.
Call 744-4166 for more information about long-term permits.
Election season is upon us.
Soon it will be time to vote, volunteer as a poll worker or, perhaps, run for
office.
Step up to the ballot box Tuesday, Nov. 7, when two city measures will be
included on the state general election ballot. Pasadena voters will have the
opportunity to vote yes or no on inviting the NFL to come to the Rose Bowl
Stadium.
Voters will also have their say on changes to the Taxpayer Protection Amendment
(TPA).
Originally approved by voters in 2001, the TPA prohibits Pasadena public
officials who approve contracts or transactions of a certain dollar amount from
receiving gifts, campaign contributions or employment from the recipients of the
contracts or transactions. With this measure, the city's Task Force on Good
Government aims to improve unintended consequences in administering the TPA and
eliminate other potential problems.
Monday, Oct. 23, is the deadline for registering to vote for the Nov. 7
election. Re-register by that date if you have moved, changed your name or
switched your party affiliation.
If you've always wanted to make a difference, you may want to file papers to run
for local office. The nominating period is Nov. 13 through Dec. 8 for mayor,
council districts 1, 2, 4 and 6, and school board seats 2, 4 and 6, all of which
will be decided during the March 6, 2007, primary nominating election and the
April 17, 2007, general municipal election.
Accessible polling sites and volunteer poll workers are also needed for the
March and April elections, especially if you speak Armenian, Chinese, Japanese,
Korean, Spanish, Tagalog or Vietnamese. Help your community by signing up today!
For complete details on voting, running for office or volunteering in Pasadena
elections, visit
www.cityofpasadena.net/cityclerk/election or call the City Clerk's Office at
744-4124.
