Takashi M. Wada, MD MPH

Health Officer

The Pasadena Public Health Department (PPHD) is a world-class model of public health practice that champions opportunities for every member of the community to live a healthy life. The PPHD undertakes activities which promote the health of individuals and the community and which protect the public from illness, injury and environmental hazards. The Department delivers core public health and clinical services that emphasize community health assessment, health assurance, and policy development. The Department also provides personal health care services when community needs are not being met by other providers. Our practices and policies are guided by the following vision statements:

u    Access and Utilization for All

We assure every member of our community has access to the care they need and knows how to use the health care system effectively.  We coordinate a health care service network that is free of cultural and language barriers.

u    Disease Eradication

Our innovative monitoring and response systems eliminate preventable communicable diseases, emerging infections, chronic diseases and their risk factors.

u Effective Public Health System

We seed and sustain strong partnerships and foster awareness and involvement among residents and agencies to drive initiatives that create a healthy community and an effective public health system.

u Elimination of Health Disparities

We foster innovative and integrated strategies that identify and eliminate health disparities.

u Healthy Environment

We influence, promote, and maintain a healthy environment ensuring that all

homes are safe and healthy, our air and water are clean, and food and vector borne   diseases are eliminated.

u Leader in Research and Development

We are a research and development center strongly linked with the academic, community, funding, health care, and scientific sectors.  Our innovative programs and projects are recognized and adopted by the public health community as best practices.

u Model for Emergency and Bioterrorism Response

We are a model for public health preparedness and response to bioterrorism and other emergencies, playing a leading role in the community wide bioterrorism and emergency response system.
