Under this alternative, the existing
La Loma Bridge would be repaired to meet current State and Federal design standards.
A detailed seismic analysis will be done to determine the required retrofit
schemes. The preliminary seismic analysis indicated that the existing
arch ribs and columns must be strengthened in order to resist seismic loads
and prevent the bridge from collapsing. The repairs would also include
widening the bridge two feet on each side to meet American Association of
State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) requirements, improve
other safety features such as bridge railings and approach guardrails, and
preserve the historic elements of the bridge that contribute to the bridge's
overall appearance.
The estimated cost of this alternative
is $11.5 million.
