Bike Week Pasadena Rolls Through May 13-18

Bike Week Pasadena returns May 13-18! Bike Week is sponsored by the City of Pasadena and organized by Cyclists Inciting Change thru Live Exchange (C.I.C.L.E.), a local bike advocacy not-for-profit organization. Bike Week Pasadena coincides with National Bike Month. Anyone can join; all you need is a bicycle and a willingness to have fun riding it. All Bike Week events are free.

“Bike Week Pasadena provides opportunities for community members to zip along on two wheels in fun and engaging ways! C.I.C.L.E. and the City of Pasadena present a week-long showcase for various skill levels and age groups to promote bicycling as a safe and sustainable way for residents to fulfill daily errands and access their favorite activities,” says Vanessa Gray, C.I.C.L.E.’s executive director.

The week’s festivities begin Monday, May 13, with the always-popular Taste of Pasadena. Participants ride their bikes from the Playhouse District to the College District and Old Pasadena, sampling bites from Pasadena restaurants along the way. Please RSVP on Eventbrite.

On Tuesday, May 14, it’s Women’s Bike Night. This ride aims to create a unique space for women and women-identified riders but is open to everyone. Meet at City Hall (100 N. Garfield Ave.) at 6 p.m. for a sunset ride through the beautiful streets of Pasadena while discovering the city’s historical sites, including the Colorado Street Bridge. The evening will end with a post-ride gathering to refuel at Kings Row Gastropub (20 E. Colorado Blvd.).

Thursday, May 16, is Bike to Work Day. Enjoy free bus rides on Pasadena Transit when you board with a bike and/or helmet. In addition, C.I.C.L.E, Day One and Pasadena Complete Streets Coalition will be on the Euclid side of Pasadena City Hall passing out Clif Bars and coffee from 6 to 9 a.m. to celebrate all bicycle commuters. Stop by and say hello on your way to work. On the way home, join fellow bicycling commuters at Congregation Ale House (300 S. Raymond Ave.), 5 – 7 p.m., at the Bike from Work Happy Hour.

On Friday, May 17, it’s Bike-In Movie Night at Day One. Enjoy a free screening of the international film Wadjda under the stars with Pasadena Complete Street Coalition and Day One. The film follows the story of a young Saudi Arabian girl’s quest to buy a bicycle that has captured her interest. Riders will meet at 7 p.m. at La Pintoresca Branch Library (1355 N. Raymond Ave.) and bike over to the film screening at Day One.

On Saturday, May 18, gather at 1 p.m. at Memorial Park to bike to the Rose Bowl for the Rose Pedal, an open-streets bike ride. The 5K loop around Rose Bowl Stadium will be car-free for folks to run, walk and bike freely. Hang out in Pasadena’s 5-star park, The Greens, while participating in fitness and health classes led by Orangetheory Fitness, Stadium Fitness and more!
