Chalk Festival 2015PASADENA—The Pasadena Chalk Festival brings together more than 600 dedicated and talented artists from Southern California and around the world with about 25,000 pieces of colorful chalk to showcase this unique centuries-old art form.

For festival information call (626) 795-8891 or visit

In 2010, the event took its place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest public art event of its kind. Now celebrating its 23rd successful year, spectators will witness hundreds of artists spending the weekend creating spectacular murals in every style ranging from classical to contemporary, whimsical to fantastic, inspirational to socially relevant. Artist families are known to participate.

The festival offers visitors an opportunity to watch amazing chalk murals come to life right before their very eyes! Participating artists come from all backgrounds and create artwork in every style, including many murals that will come to life in 3-D!

It all happens this Father’s Day Weekend, Saturday, June 20, and Sunday, June 21 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the beautiful Paseo Colorado retail entertainment center.  The unique art event, encompassing pavement the size of three football fields, will also stretch across to the public concourse at the Civic Auditorium on Green Street.

Paseo Colorado is at 280 East Colorado Boulevard, between Marengo and Los Robles Avenues, in the heart of Pasadena's historic downtown Civic Center.  Plenty of convenient parking is available.

It’s always free-of-charge to the public! Although you will need to pay for parking.

In addition to the one-of-a-kind opportunity to watch artists at work, visitors can enjoy live music on our Main Stage and children can make art and have their faces painted in ChalkLand.

The Pasadena Police Department’s annual Classic Car Show happens on Sunday, June 21.  See info below.

Always a highlight of the Pasadena Chalk Festival is Animation Alley, an area spotlighting some of the top and upcoming animators and graphic designers from Southern California.

On Paseo's Upper Theatre Court, Chalk of Fame, sponsored by ArcLight Cinema, is a staging ground for murals depicting well known movies, movie stars, epic scenes and classic movie posters.

At the Silent Auction Art Gallery audience members can bid on affordable, small painted canvases created by the participating artists of the Festival.  A variety of Festival merchandise will also be available for purchase with proceeds benefiting Light Bringer Project, a Pasadena-based arts organization.

Chalk Festival pictureOn Fathers’ Day weekend it’s not unusual to see two or three generations working together on their chalk mural. At the festival's conclusion, participating artists will select the outstanding murals from among their peers.  Awards include 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place Best of Show, Best Technique, Best Use of Color, Most Inspirational, Best Rendering of a Masterpiece, and more. Festival visitors will also have the opportunity to vote for the "Paseo Colorado People's Choice" award. Ballots will be available on Sunday at the information booth.

Awards will be announced Sunday at 7:30 p.m.  The Pasadena Chalk Festival benefits the community arts programs of Light Bringer Project, a nonprofit arts organization founded in 1990.  In alignment with its mission to build communities through the power of the arts and education, the organization places an emphasis on youth development, providing innovative arts programs that unite schools, industry and community resources throughout Los Angeles County.
