PASADENA, Calif.—Following the City Council organizational meeting on Dec. 12, 2022, the newly-seated City Council will consider applicants to serve as the appointed councilmember to fill the vacancy for the District 3 seat. The term of service for the appointment is from the date of appointment to Dec. 9, 2024.
To be considered for the position, applicants must be registered voters who currently live in District 3. In addition to submitting a completed application, applicants must circulate a nomination petition and gather a minimum of 25 qualified signatures from registered voters living and registered in District 3.
Application materials and nomination petitions are available starting Nov. 3 in the Office of the City Clerk and will be issued subject to confirmation of eligibility. Applicants must hand-deliver all completed materials by 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022, to the Office of the City Clerk, 100 N. Garfield Ave., Room S228. No postmarks, email submissions or faxes will be accepted. There is a $25 filing fee due at the time applications and nomination petitions are filed.
Applicants who complete the application process will be invited to attend a designated meeting of the City Council for the purposes of a public interview by the City Council. The date and time of the meeting has yet to be determined (currently anticipated to occur in December 2022). Further details will be provided after all applications are received.
The effective date of service for the newly appointed councilmember representing District 3 will begin on the day of appointment following the administration of the oath of office by the city clerk. The application period is from Thursday, Nov. 3 – Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022.

Please note, City Hall will be closed on Friday, Nov. 4; Friday, Nov. 11 (Veteran’s Day); Friday, Nov. 18; and Thursday and Friday, Nov. 24-25 (Thanksgiving). Appointments are requested in order to obtain materials and submit completed applications.
