Free Fourth Annual Centennial Square Boxing Show

PASADENA, Calif.—The City of Pasadena Human Services and Recreation Department will host its fourth annual Centennial Square Boxing Show, featuring a full-scale boxing ring in front of City Hall (100 N. Garfield Ave.) on Friday, August 23, from 7 - 9 p.m. This family-friendly event is free and open to the public.

An upbeat rock band will kick off the event, followed by a live performance of the national anthem and a color guard by the 2nd Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment. Police Chief John Perez will deliver the opening remarks and ring the ceremonial boxing bell. Attendees will also enjoy performances by local dance groups, DJ music, classic cars on display, and food available for purchase.

Twelve bouts of action-packed, Olympic-style boxing will feature male and female competitors, ages 8 and older. This highly anticipated event is so popular, a boxing team is traveling from Kansas City, Missouri to compete against local boxers, many of whom are nationally ranked.

Sanctioned by USA Boxing, the event will also feature four bouts of boxers who train at the Villa-Parke Community Center boxing gym. Over the past 20 years, hundreds of hopeful future Olympians and professionals have undergone training with boxing specialist Fausto De La Torre. Currently, more than 300 youth and adults are registered to use the boxing gym. Boxing promotes physical and mental discipline, strength and well-being, and is often a good fit for youth who are not drawn to more traditional sports.
