Pasadena Installs Second Public Fast-Charging Station for Electric Vehicles

PASADENA, Calif.—The City of Pasadena is pleased to announce that the Arroyo Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Depot, located at 64 E. Glenarm St., is now open to the public. With a total of 26 chargers—20 of which are Tesla V3 Superchargers—the Depot features the latest and most powerful public chargers in the city. To commemorate this expansion of the Power Up Pasadena electric transportation initiative, Pasadena Water and Power (PWP) held a private ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 3.

"We hope that by expanding our charging infrastructure, Pasadena residents will feel secure with the idea of purchasing an electric vehicle as the state navigates this transition toward zero-emission vehicles," said City Manager Steve Mermell. "We recognize that alleviating range anxiety and implementing robust charging infrastructure is necessary to promote adoption."

Pasadena has the distinction of having the highest percentage of EV drivers among all Southern California electric utilities, and plans to continue supporting these drivers through expanded charging infrastructure and generous incentives. PWP has been granted City Council approval to bring three additional large charging facilities to Pasadena. They include two community centers, Robinson Park and Victory Park, as well as a large expansion at the Del Mar Metro Station facility. "Sufficient charging infrastructure opens the door for new customer programs geared toward low-income customers and rideshare fleets," said Marvin Moon, assistant general manager of power delivery.

The Arroyo EV Charging Depot is the second fast-charging site co-developed by PWP and Tesla. In May 2020, PWP opened the Marengo Charging Plaza, the largest public fast-charging site in California, providing 44 chargers that were installed by both the City and Tesla. Since the launch of the Power Up Pasadena campaign in 2018, PWP has installed over 100 public EV chargers in the city and has made all fast chargers free for public use for a limited time.

Pasadena continues to offer generous rebates to purchase/lease new or used EVs as well as rebates for charging equipment. To learn more about the available incentives for EVs, at-home chargers, and commercial rebates, visit: PWPweb.com/EV
