PASADENA, Calif.—The City of Pasadena is participating in the State of California’s Great Plates Delivered initiative. In partnership with local restaurants, the City will provide three home-delivered meals per day to qualifying older adults. Great Plates Delivered helps adults 65 and older, and adults 60-64 who are at high risk from COVID-19 stay home and stay healthy, and provides essential economic stimulus to local businesses.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to support some of our most vulnerable residents and help local businesses during the Safer at Home order. While LA County also has a Great Plates Delivered program, we wanted to create a local program to best meet the needs of our community,” said City Manager Steve Mermell.
Individual participants may apply for Great Plates Delivered at cityofpasadena.net/great-plates or by calling (626) 744-7311. Participants must meet eligibility requirements, including age and inability to prepare or obtain meals, and participants must not currently receive assistance from other state or federal nutrition assistance programs. View the full list of program requirements and more information on how to sign up.
Restaurants and other food providers interested in participating in the Great Plates Delivered program should fill out an interest form. Food providers will be selected based on their ability to meet volume and nutritional standards; source locally; prioritize worker retention, health and safety; and ensure standards of equity and fairness in employment practices. The Great Plates Delivered webpage will be updated with new information as the program is rolled out.
Program costs will be initially paid by the City, 75% of which will be eligible for reimbursement by FEMA and 18.75% by the state. Pasadena’s final share of the expense will be 6.25%. The program will run until June 10, 2020, and the state will seek two additional 30-day extensions from FEMA which, if approved, would extend Great Plates Delivered to as late as August 10, 2020.
