PASADENA, Calif.—The City of Pasadena has always paused to honor Veterans Day and all of our military veterans. This year is a slightly different, as the event will be held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Pasadena Veterans Day Committee, in collaboration with Pasadena Media, has produced a special one-hour tribute that will be broadcast at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11. This year’s guest speaker will be Staff Sergeant (SSgt) Shamoneka Collins, a Pasadena Marine from the 2nd Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment.
SSgt Collins was born in Greensboro, Ala., and has been on active duty for over 10 years.
SSgt Collins' awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star in lieu of second award, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal with bronze star in lieu of third award, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and various other commendations.
SSgt Collins is married to Tristan Fleary of Brooklyn, N.Y. Together they have one child named Micah. SSgt Collins holds a bachelor's degree in Allied Health from National University and is currently pursuing a master’s in business administration with a specialization in supply chain management from National University.
