We know that the community is eager to contribute to the greater good to help everyone get through this crisis. While the city is determining how best to call upon volunteers, including when it is safe to do so, here are some ways that you can contribute on your own:
Deliver Meals: Vulnerable seniors are at greatest risk amid COVID-19. To help keep them safe and cared for, you can contact Pasadena Meals on Wheels. For more information, visit https://www.pasadenamealsonwheels.org.
Donate to a Shelter or Food Bank: During this time organizations are running low on food items. To help them stay well-stocked, you can contact Union Station Homeless Services. For more information, visit https://unionstationhs.org/c19urgentneeds/
Wellness Checks: Check on older neighbors with a call, text, or talk through the door.
Hygiene Kits: People experiencing homelessness are in need of basic hygiene kits. Union Station Homeless Services is collecting hygiene kits. Assemble a kit at home and drop off to their facility. For more information, visit https://unionstationhs.org/c19urgentneeds/. An example of what to include in a Hygiene Kit can be found here.
Donate Blood: Healthy blood donors are especially needed during a time of crisis. Eligible donors are urged to donate to ensure that there’s lifesaving blood on the shelves for those who need it most. For more information, visit the American Red Cross: https://www.redcrossblood.org/local-homepage/location/pasadena-american-red-cross.html or Huntington Hospital: https://www.huntingtonhospital.org/support-us/donate-blood/
Support Nonprofits: Nonprofits of all types, especially those serving vulnerable communities, need your help. Consider a donation to non-profits to support them in their community-serving efforts.
