Alternatives to Citrus: Fighting Asian Citrus Psyllid and Huanglongbing in Our Communities

In this presentation, Sara Harris, University of California Cooperative Extension Special Project Coordinator and Master Gardener, will offer information for home gardeners on strategies for identifying and dealing with the Asian Citrus Psyllid (ACP) and the fatal disease is carries - Huanglongbing (HLB). She will also discuss alternative fruit crops that are appropriate to the Southern California landscape.

Topics covered will also include tree care, monitoring, management, and maintenance for existing citrus, how to map and report ACP and signs of HLB, and planning for potential replacement of citrus with alternative fruit trees and information on nutrition, harvesting, storage, and recipes for fruits other than citrus that provide similar health benefits.

Activities also include basic science and research discussion, image and map/app sharing, hands-on seasonal tree care and harvesting tips, and recipes and fruit tasting.
