The mission of the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Coalition
(MLKCC) is to educate, serve and inspire students to keep Dr. King’s
dream alive. In line with the mission, and for more than three decades
MLKCC has had programs and activities in the community. MLKCC
invites you to take part in one or more of the upcoming exciting events
that will be presented in 2020 so that you may experience firsthand the
pride of honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King through
community engagement and bridge building.
Enclosed please find a list of upcoming events, which will highlight the
gifts and talents of local youth and will provide details for your
attendance.
May we count on you to make a monetary commitment to support this
annual event? Your generous donation will make a difference in
achieving the goal of $15,000 and will allow the dream of Dr. King to
continue with the young people in Pasadena, California. One of the
ways your contribution will be used is to award and recognize winners
in the essay and visual arts contest.

Rekindling the Light of Peace
Jackie Robinson Community Center

Description: The Pasadena Human Relations Commission
invites the public to attend the 20th Annual “Rekindling the Light
of Peace” event in the City Council Chambers at Pasadena City
Hall. This free event features guest speakers, music and poetry
readings and is a prelude to celebrations that occur on Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Tuesday, January 14, 2020 - 5:00 p.m.
MLK Essay and Visual Arts Finalists’ Public Readings, Displays,
and Presentations
Longfellow Elementary School, 5:30 p.m.
1065 E. Washington Blvd. Pasadena, CA 91104
Description: Come listen to original speeches and enjoy an
evening of viewing beautiful artwork and performances paying
tribute to Dr. King by the MLK Essay and Visual Arts Contest
finalists and winners. The hosting school organizes the event to
showcase some of the other diverse talents of the students.

Saturday, January 18, 2020 - 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
MLK Day of Service: A Day On, Not Off
Muir High School, 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
1905 N. Lincoln Ave. Pasadena, CA 91103
Description: On the Saturday before the MLK Day of Service, it
is our tradition to provide a local school with volunteers to help
beautify the campus. We will plant flowers, clean up, and do
several maintenance tasks. Afterwards, we will enjoy a nice
lunch and entertainment from the students from the school. This
is collaboration between Martin Luther King Community Coalition
and Pasadena Unified School District and the school principal.
