Statement by Councilmember John J. Kennedy on the Passing of Congressman Elijah E. Cummings

Elijah Eugene Cummings Letter

October 17, 2019

To The Greater Community,

Today one of God’s stars has lost his ability to shine in this realm.  However, Congressman Elijah E. Cummings’ contributions to working families in the United States will never diminish. I take comfort in believing that Congressman Cummings’ star still shines brightly in the hearts and minds of the millions of lives he touched during a life of service to others.

On his visits to Pasadena, he always advocated for the uplift and advancement of all people to fulfill their full potential.  He supported and championed the underdog, but walked with presidents, prime ministers, queens and kings.  It was Congressman Cummings’ mission to understand the challenges faced by the average person and work to alleviate suffering and despair.

I extend my most heartfelt condolences upon the passing of the Lion of the United States House of Representatives, Congressman Elijah Cummings, to his brilliant wife Maya Rockeymoore Cummings, his direct constituents in the 7th Congressional District of Baltimore, Maryland that he represented so well and his indirect constituents throughout the United States who benefited from his dedication to bettering the lives of all Americans.

Heaven has welcomed home another saint!

Respectfully yours,

John J. Kennedy
