Construction on the Lower Loop trail is progressing. The contractor moved significant dirt and Arroyo stone into the area this week, building up the slope under the Mayberry Parker Bridge (MPB), as well as completing more brush clearance. The contractor removed a portion of the old concrete wall under the MPB to facilitate the trail connection. Grading and installation of a retaining wall farther north under the 134 freeway bridge has been completed as well as new rock armor on the slopes. Crews are also working on remediating the serious erosion channel from the slope above the trail starting along the MPB, using rock armor. This remediation will help to prevent future water flows from destroying the terrace steps that will eventually be installed on the slope under the MPB. The trail section from the northern edge of the project at Arroyo Blvd., on the Aquatic Center side, remains closed during weekdays. The closure extends the entire length of the east side to the Casting Pond area. We expect the contractor to complete work under the 134 bridge area this coming week and begin to work south.
