Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
CERT prepares residents to organize as a support force when professional first responders are delayed or overwhelmed during a disaster. The curriculum focuses on skills like fire suppression, light search and rescue, and medical operations. Residents learn how to manage team logistics using the Incident Command System and how to handle the emotional weight of a crisis through disaster psychology. After our 21 hour course, residents can be certified as part of CERT. Learn more
Prepared Pasadena
Prepared Pasadena is the City's disaster readiness initiative to help residents survive and recover from major emergencies. The program is a 4-hour hands-on training that acts as a "Disaster 101" course, covering essentials like fire extinguisher use, basic first aid, and light search and rescue. Residents also learn the concepts of emergency planning, how to coordinate neighbors, what to pack in a go-bag, and where they can access reliable information. By simplifying the extensive CERT curriculum into a single morning session, it ensures that time is not a barrier to preparedness.
Listos CA Block Party
The Listos CA Block Party is an initiative designed by Listos California (a state program by CalOES) to make preparedness social, fun, and accessible. Instead of a formal classroom, it uses a neighborhood gathering to teach preparedness through games and community networking. While CERT is a "technical" training and Prepared Pasadena is a "quick and hands-on" training, the Listos Block Party is about building social resilience. The goal is to bring neighbors together since research data correlates connected neighbors and higher survival rates. Pasadena proudly became one of the first cities to launch this program in partnership with the State.
