Emergency Medical Treatment and Transportation
The charge for an ambulance transport can be as high as $4,000. Even with medical insurance, co-payments and deductibles often range between $50 and $500 for an ambulance transport - sometimes more. When you need paramedics, cost should not be a concern.
A new program offered by the Pasadena Fire Department will prevent such unexpected expenses. Membership in the Pasadena Paramedic Subscription Program provides unlimited use of Pasadena Fire’s emergency medical system for you and the other members of your household for a small annual fee.
The Pasadena Paramedic Subscription Program is a voluntary membership program for paramedic services and emergency ambulance transportation. Every dollar received by the program is used to enhance emergency medical services to the community and to improve our local paramedic system.
For just $89 per year ($7.41 per month) this voluntary program provides coverage for fees associated with any Paramedic services or emergency transportation provided.

Questions and Answers
What does the membership cover?
The Pasadena Paramedic Subscription Program fee covers all emergency medical service provided by the Pasadena Fire Department within City limits and includes transport from a Pasadena location to medically appropriate local area hospitals.
Why do I need to join if I already have medical insurance?
When the Pasadena Fire Department bills your insurance company for emergency medical treatment and transportation, there is no guarantee that the company will cover the charges. The charges may be denied or only partially paid, or your deductible or cap limit may result in an unpaid balance for which you are responsible. As a member of the Pasadena Paramedic Subscription program, people in your household will not have those worries – they will not be responsible for any out-of-pocket costs.
The $89 annual fee is only a fraction of the deductible and/or co-payment most insurance companies charge, and it covers all members of your household. Your membership covers you and any person related to the member by blood, marriage or adoption residing in the member’s home. This includes a ward, foster child or registered Domestic Partner.
I am a business owner in the City, can I apply for the program?
Unfortunately, no. This is strictly a residential program.
Does it matter what type of insurance coverage I have?
No. For a member that does not have medical insurance, you will receive a 50% discount on your emergency services bill.
Will I receive a membership identification card?
No membership card is necessary. Your Pasadena Paramedic Subscription membership is confirmed by your home address, either as the location of the emergency or as your mailing address. We will confirm your membership when we receive the paramedic report forms after you use our services.
How do I join the Pasadena Paramedic Subscription program?
By filling out and returning the application form, you can enroll in the program. You have the option of payment by check or by credit card. Your coverage will begin on the first business day after we receive your signed application. On the eleventh month of your subscription, renewal letters will be sent to your address.
Will my membership cover a visiting family member or friend?
No. Your membership only covers full time members living in your household and listed on your application. It does not cover anyone visiting even if they are family members.
Do I need to tell the paramedics that I am a member?
No. When your patient care report is sent to the billing company it will be flagged automatically.
