The current Hill Avenue Branch building, the oldest in the Pasadena Public Library system, was designed by Marston, Van Pelt and Maybury, and opened May 6, 1925. The building’s historical architecture has been maintained throughout the years and is listed in the City of Pasadena’s Cultural Heritage Landmarks.

Hill Avenue Branch Collection
Presently, the collection has 41,000 volumes which include career and job development, large type fiction and nonfiction and popular fiction for adults. There is a small Spanish collection for adults and children, a collection of adult classics in paperback, and a featured collection in four Asian languages.
Special Features
Asian Language Collection
Located directly across the street from Pasadena City College, Hill Avenue Branch library is home to the system’s Asian language collection. The collection features Chinese books, newspapers and magazines, as well as a fiction and non-fiction collection for adults and children in Korean, Japanese and Vietnamese. The Hill Avenue Branch serves three elementary schools and eight preschools in the area. Hill Avenue Branch is also used by students and faculty from Pasadena City College and Caltech.
Pasadena Grows
Hill Avenue Branch is home to Pasadena Grows, a seed-lending program. Borrow some seeds, grow something wonderful, and harvest seeds to return! We have vegetable, fruit, herbs and native plant seeds. It's free, and green! We also offer a monthly program with gardening themes, such as programs about native plants, sustainable and small-space gardening, and more!
