April 17, 2023: Proclamation - Arbor Day

PROCLAMATION:

Whereas established in 1872, Arbor Day encourages the planting of trees in urban and wildland areas to protect, renew and manage our trees and forests, and to encourage a healthy ecosystem; and

Whereas for the 33rd consecutive year, the National Arbor Day Foundation has recognized Pasadena as a Tree City USA designee and has awarded to Pasadena for the 23rd year a Growth Award for excellence in promoting urban forestry programs; and

Whereas Pasadena is committed to trees as a defining feature of this great City, and on April 29 the City will plant 15 trees in District 2 around Jefferson Park through a longstanding partnership with Pasadena Beautiful Foundation; and

Whereas the event will also highlight sustainability and tree care by way of a tree planting demonstration, supervision of the volunteer tree planting efforts, and distribution of informational material;

Now, Therefore I, Victor M. Gordo, Mayor of Pasadena, on behalf of the City Council, do hereby proclaim April 29, 2023 in the City of Pasadena as Arbor Day.
