PROCLAMATION:
Whereas Pasadena’s older adults are valued members of society and deserve to be treated with respect and dignity to enable them to continue to serve as leaders, mentors, volunteers and important and active members of this community; and
Whereas the Pasadena Public Health Department and Pasadena Elderly and Dependent Adult Liaisons (PEDAL) Committee are concerned about the risk to our senior residents who suffer from neglect or are victims of financial, emotional, sexual, or physical abuse; and
Whereas abuse of older adults is a tragedy inflicted on vulnerable seniors in all socioeconomic groups, and is not limited to race or gender. It is our collective responsibility to help improve social structures that promote community and societal connections that prioritize the prevention of elder abuse; and
Whereas raising community awareness to recognize and report elder abuse will help improve the quality of life for all older adults across the City, allowing them to continue to live as independently as possible and contribute to the life and vibrancy of Pasadena; and
Now, Therefore I, Victor M. Gordo, Mayor of the City of Pasadena, on behalf of the City Council do hereby proclaim June 15, 2022 in Pasadena as Elder Abuse Awareness Day and encourage everyone to commit to building a safer community for our older residents.
