PROCLAMATION
Whereas it is important to acknowledge the contributions older individuals have made in our communities and in the workplace to the economic well-being of our nation through civic leadership and mentoring; and
Whereas our expanding elder population profoundly impacts every facet of our lives, redefining our ideas of work, retirement and leisure, altering our housing and living arrangements, challenging our healthcare systems, reshaping our economy, and altering social and public policy; and
Whereas the opportunities and challenges that await us require our continued commitment to the goal of ensuring that our senior citizens enjoy active, productive and healthy lives, and do so independently, safely and with dignity; and
Whereas the City of Pasadena joins the national tradition of designating the month of May as a time to celebrate the contributions of older Americans and rededicate our efforts to better serving their needs;
Whereas the City Council wishes to express its appreciation for past and continuing contributions of its older residents to the community and to our nation, and recognize that older adults are a vital and growing part of our City; and
Now, Therefore I, Victor M. Gordo, Mayor of the City of Pasadena, on behalf of the City Council, do hereby proclaim the month of May in the City of Pasadena as Older Americans Month and express appreciation for the continuing contributions of the City’s older residents to our community.
