May 24, 2021: Proclamation - Arbor Day

PROCLAMATION:

Whereas, established in 1872, Arbor Day encourages the planting of trees in urban and wildland areas to protect, renew and manage our trees and forests, and to encourage a healthy ecosystem; and

Whereas, for the 31st consecutive year, the National Arbor Day Foundation has recognized Pasadena as a Tree City USA designee and has awarded to Pasadena for the 21st year a Growth Award for excellence in promoting urban forestry programs; and

Whereas, Pasadena is committed to trees as a defining feature of this great City, and on May 27 the City will plant 11 trees around City Hall and the Civic Center area; and through a longstanding partnership with Pasadena Beautiful Foundation, plant a large specimen oak tree at Defenders Park; and

Whereas, the event will also highlight and promote additional tree care and environmental information through the City’s virtual media; ­

Now, Therefore I, Victor M. Gordo, Mayor of Pasadena, on behalf of the City Council, do hereby proclaim May 27, 2021 in the City of Pasadena as Arbor Day.
