Whereas according to the United States Small Business Administration, there are currently 32.5 million small businesses in the United States, which represent more than 99% of American companies and are responsible for over 65% of net new jobs created from the years 2000 to 2019; and
Whereas small businesses employ 47% of the employees in the private sector in our country, and contribute positively to the local community by supplying jobs and generating tax revenue; and
Whereas along with advocacy groups and public and private organizations across the country which have endorsed the Saturday after Thanksgiving as Small Business Saturday, today Pasadena celebrates our local small businesses and the contributions they make to our local economy and community; and
Whereas it is important to support our City’s valued small businesses, which create jobs, boost our local economy, and preserve our neighborhoods;
Now, Therefore I, Victor M. Gordo, Mayor of the City of Pasadena, on behalf of the City Council, do hereby proclaim November 27, 2021 in Pasadena as Small Business Saturday and urge the residents of our community to support small businesses and merchants today and throughout the year.
