October 17, 2022: Proclamation - National Friends of Libraries Week

PROCLAMATION:

Whereas the mission of The Friends of the Pasadena Public Library is to support the Library’s programs, special services and cultural events by raising funds for projects that instill the excitement of discovery and the love of reading in Library patrons of all ages, including summer reading programs, visiting author series and One City, One Story; and

Whereas the work of The Friends highlights our City’s libraries and the important role they play in providing opportunities for all ages to experience the joy of lifelong learning, such as through their sponsorship of a hotspot lending program and children’s, teens and adult programming; and

Whereas The Friends understand the critical importance of strong funding for libraries, and advocate to ensure that our libraries receive necessary resources to provide a wide variety of services to all ages, including access to print and electronic materials, expert assistance in research, readers advisory, children’s services and cultural heritage events; and

Whereas by giving of their time, talent and resources, The Friends’ volunteerism promotes positive civic engagement and the betterment of our community;

Now, Therefore I, Victor M. Gordo, Mayor of the City of Pasadena, on behalf of the City Council, do hereby proclaim October 16-22, 2022 in Pasadena as National Friends of Libraries Week.
