October 18, 2021: Proclamation - National Long-Term Care Residents' Rights Month

PROCLAMATION:

Whereas, in Pasadena there are over 1,000 persons living in 15 nursing homes, and over 2,300 persons living in nearly 100 assisted living/ residential care facilities; and

Whereas, the Federal Nursing Home Reform Act of 1987 guarantees residents their individual rights in order to promote and maintain their dignity and autonomy, and all residents should be aware of their rights so that they may be empowered to live with dignity and self-determination; and

Whereas, we wish to honor and celebrate these residents, recognize their rich individuality, and reaffirm their right to vote and participate politically, as well as their right to have a say in their own care; and

Whereas, individuals and groups across the country will be celebrating Residents’ Rights Month with the theme “Reclaiming My Rights, My Home, My Life” to highlight the need for residents’ rights to be recognized, recovered and reasserted; and

Now, Therefore I, Victor M. Gordo, Mayor of the City of Pasadena, on behalf of the City Council, do hereby proclaim October, 2021 in Pasadena as National Long-Term Care Residents’ Rights Month and encourage all members of our community to recognize this important observance.
