PROCLAMATION:
Whereas the City of Pasadena recognizes the importance of acknowledging and honoring the rich history, culture and contributions of California Native Americans; and
Whereas the City aims to promote diversity, inclusivity, and respect for all individuals in our community, and California Native American Day provides an opportunity to celebrate the heritage, traditions, and resilience of California Native Americans; and
Whereas California Native American communities have made significant contributions to the growth, development, and progress of our state and community through their rich traditions, art, language, medicine, environmental stewardship, and more; and
Whereas recognizing this important day fosters greater understanding and appreciation of the historical and contemporary issues faced by California Native American communities, and provides an opportunity for all persons to learn about the diverse California Native American culture that has shaped our region and our state;
Now, Therefore I, Victor M. Gordo, Mayor of the City of Pasadena, on behalf of the City Council, do hereby proclaim September 22, 2023 in Pasadena as California Native American Day.
