Mayte Garcia

Hello Everyone! My name is Mayte Garcia and I had the privilege of serving as a Youth Ambassador from 2013 to 2017, while attending Marshall Fundamental. Since then, my journey has taken me to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where I pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a concentration in Pre-Law. During my time at Cal Poly, I immersed myself in Student Affairs and the Multicultural Greek Community, while also gaining valuable work experience in various roles, including Campus Dining, New Student and Transition Programs, and at DSW.
Today, I'm honored to serve as the Department Administrator at Caltech's Center for Inclusion and Diversity. My passion for working in Higher Education stems from a desire to be a resource for underrepresented and marginalized students, and my goal is to further my education with either a Masters in Business Administration or a Masters in Higher Education/Student Affairs to continue this journey.
Additionally, I'm currently wrapping up my Rose Program Internship with the Youth Ambassador Program. It has been an incredible experience to give back and support La Toya in supervising the Youth Ambassadors.
The Youth Ambassador Program ignited my passion for community service. Engaging in various events and networking opportunities with city employees allowed me to make invaluable connections with fellow Youth Ambassadors and supervisors. The program not only equipped me with essential skills but also played a significant role in shaping me into the leader I am today. What I cherished most was the opportunity to give back to the Pasadena community that has given me so much.
To all current and future Youth Ambassadors, my advice is to seize every opportunity the City of Pasadena presents. Be intentional in your networking efforts, as you never know what doors may open. Leave a lasting impression with everyone you meet and pursue what brings you joy, whether it's higher education, vocational training, or immediate employment. And most importantly, stay connected with the Youth Ambassador community; the support and experiences gained are invaluable. I'm deeply grateful for everything this program has bestowed upon me, and I encourage you to make the most of it.
