Overview
The City of Pasadena’s Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department and the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) celebrated the grand opening of the new 17,800 square foot Octavia E. Butler Magnet (Washington Middle School) Gymnasium during a ceremony January 18, 2018.
The $10.4 million 17,800 square foot sports complex includes a gymnasium with basketball and volleyball courts, a fitness room/weight room, dance room, locker rooms, concession stand, and offices. The project also includes five outdoor basketball courts.
PUSD and the City of Pasadena entered into a joint-use agreement for the new multi-purpose gymnasium, which will serve the learning and recreational needs of the Octavia E. Butler Magnet during the day and serve the community when students are not using the facility. Recreational opportunities available for the broader community include youth and adult team sports, fitness classes, and tournaments.
