PASADENA, Calif.— Governor Newsom’s Executive Order N-6-25 suspended certain regulations associated with the relocation of a school to a temporary site. The City of Pasadena is implementing the State’s orders, and is also deferring non-critical code requirements to assist in expediting temporary occupancy. It is important to note that fire and life safety requirements still must be met, even for the temporary occupancy of a space. Further, these requirements differ depending on the use and when the use changes (for example from office space to school space) the safety requirements for a school must be addressed. Ensuring safety at any temporary site requires a licensed architectural building code analysis for the change of occupancy. Given the urgency to get students back into their schools, the Planning and Community Development Department's Building and Safety Division has established a dedicated team to assist with the temporary relocation of schools and child-care facilities, please contact buildingrecovery@cityofpasadena.net for additional information.
