About Design and Historic Preservation

Design & Historic Preservation section of the Planning Department is responsible for conducting design review of new development and alterations throughout the City of Pasadena. The section is also responsible for identifying, designating and reviewing alterations to and demolitions of historic resources.

Historic Preservation Ordinance Update

In March, 2021, the City Council adopted an update to the City’s Historic Preservation Ordinance to address community concerns and ensure that it reflects best practices in the field of historic preservation.  Click the link below to learn more about the major changes that were made to the Ordinance.

Design Review

The Pasadena Municipal Code requires design review of new construction and alterations throughout the City.

Promotes the identification, evaluation, rehabilitation, adaptive use, and restoration of historic structures.
