Critical Incident Information Video PA2026-17113

Under California Assembly Bill 748 (AB 748), now codified primarily in California Government Code Section 7923.625, law enforcement agencies are required to release audio and video recordings associated with defined “critical incidents.”

On March 2, 2026, Pasadena Police officers were dispatched to a reported shooting at the Sierra Madre Villa metro station. Upon arrival, an officer contacted the victim suffering from a gunshot wound and conducted an initial assessment. The officer obtained critical information regarding the circumstances of the shooting, including a description of the suspect.

A second victim approached officers and reported that the first victim had been shot while attempting to intervene in a sexual assault. Additional responding officers subsequently located an individual matching the suspect’s description a few blocks north of the initial incident on Sierra Madre Villa Avenue. When officers attempted to detain him, the suspect fled, prompting a foot pursuit.

During the pursuit, officers issued multiple commands for the suspect to stop; however, he failed to comply and continued to evade capture. As officers attempted to take the suspect into custody, an exchange of gunfire occurred, resulting in injuries to both an officer and the suspect.

The Critical Incident Briefing Video provides a comprehensive overview of the incident, including in-car video footage, audio recordings, private surveillance footage and explanatory narration. The suspect’s actions unfolded for approximately twelve minutes and spanned about half a mile within a mixed commercial and residential area of east Pasadena.

This officer-involved shooting remains under active investigation by Pasadena Police Department Robbery and Homicide Unit, Critical Performance Unit, Professional Standards Unit, members of the Pasadena City Attorney’s Office and Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Pasadena Police at (626) 744-4241. Anonymous tips may be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (8477), through the P3 Tips mobile app, or online at lacrimestoppers.org.
