On July 30, 2022, The Monrovia Police Department advised Pasadena Police Dispatch, they were pursuing a vehicle that had been carjacked in the City of Pasadena on July 29, 2022. The suspect in the carjacking was armed with a handgun during the commission of the crime and it was believed the suspect was potentially still armed with the handgun.
After approximately 18 minutes of pursuing the vehicle, Monrovia PD relinquished the primary responsibilities of the pursuit to the Pasadena Police Department. The Pasadena PD pursued the vehicle throughout various areas of the city before the suspect pulled into a small shopping center in the 600 block of N. Lake Ave. After several minutes of negotiating with the suspect to surrender peacefully, an officer-involved shooting occurred.

The actions of the suspect lasted approximately 35 minutes spanning several city blocks as well as segments of the CA 210 freeway. The material on this page is meant to provide the public with a more clear understanding of the incident as the events of that tragic day unfolded.

This is Mobile Audio and Video footage captured from one of the Police units that actively pursued the stolen suspect vehicle. The video depicts an officer responding to assist in the pursuit and ultimately assuming the lead role in pursuing the suspect’s vehicle. The video captures as the officer trails the pursuit on surface streets within the city and captures when the officer is in direct pursuit behind the suspect vehicle as it drives west on the CA 210 freeway and along surface streets within the city. The video also captures the standoff with the suspect who was stopped in the parking lot of a shopping center in the northeast corner of Lake Ave and Orange Grove Blvd.

This video is from the dash camera of an officer responding to assist when the pursuit ended in the parking lot of the shopping center. The video captures as the officer arrives on scene, captures as officers use other police cars to block the exit of the parking lot and provides a head on angle of the Officer Involved Shooting when it occurs.

This video is from the dash camera of an officer who assumes the primary role in the pursuit in the area of Foothill Blvd. and Santa Paula Ave. The video captures the erratic and unsafe driving habits that the suspect used as he attempted to evade capture. The video captures as the suspect fails to stop for several red lights, as he drives in the opposing lanes of traffic, and as he accelerates to high speeds on surface streets.

This video is from the dash camera of an officer responding to assist in the pursuit of the carjacking vehicle. The footage depicted shows the officer as he trails the pursuit before arriving at the shopping center where the pursuit ended. In the parking lot of the shopping center, the camera captures the sound of the public address announcement being made by officers to the suspect to surrender peacefully. This camera also captures a different angle of the officer-involved shooting.
