ABOUT
Field Operations Division
Led by Commander Sean Dawkins, the Field Operations Division is responsible for delivering the Pasadena Police Department’s core services, including responding to emergency and non-emergency calls, fostering community relationships, and addressing public safety concerns. Patrol operations follow a Community Service Area model, with each area led by a lieutenant who collaborates closely with neighborhood stakeholders to enhance safety and quality of life.
The division also oversees several specialized units that strengthen our mission. The Field Training Officer (FTO) Program pairs new officers with experienced mentors who guide their development and ensure they are prepared to serve with professionalism and integrity. The Reserve Officer Program further expands departmental capabilities by integrating trained volunteer officers into patrol duties and special assignments.
The Canine Unit provides essential field support, with police dogs trained in suspect apprehension, detection work, and article searches. One K-9 also serves as a community engagement dog, helping build positive and lasting connections with residents.
The Event Planning Section manages police operations for large-scale city events, including those at the Rose Bowl Stadium, ensuring safe and well-coordinated experiences for attendees.
Additionally, the Counterterrorism Unit (CTU) works proactively with regional and federal partners to identify threats, safeguard critical infrastructure, provide dignitary protection, and deliver training that enhances citywide preparedness.
Together, under Commander Dawkins’ leadership, these teams deliver responsive, community-focused policing that reflects Pasadena’s values.
