City Speaks

DESCRIPTION

In City Speaks, three Pasadena poets, a sculptor and a sound designer, create an intimate outdoor living room. The project pairs a sculptural seating installation intended to recall Pasadena's Arts and Crafts style decorative arts history with an audio component that plays original poetry.

City Speaks by the NewTown Pasadena Foundation, created as part of Series 1, Series 2, and Series 3 of the City’s Rotating Public Art Program.

Rotating Public Art Program:

The City of Pasadena’s Rotating Public Art Program was launched by the Cultural Affairs Division in 2011 to enliven the urban landscape with publicly accessible artworks. The Program complements the permanent artworks commissioned by the City’s Private Development and Capital Improvement Public Art Programs by temporarily installing loaned contemporary sculptures in each of Pasadena’s seven Council Districts. This temporary public art program aims to expand the context for public art in Pasadena. Now in it’s fourth iteration, the Rotating Public Art Program has exhibited a total of 30+ artworks throughout the City, producing a dynamic visual experience for residents and visitors alike.
