The third element of Gwynn Murrill's series of artwork based on the theme of bringing the mountains to the city reveals a gracefully poised cougar carved in relief. This carving was inspired by the arid climates set in and adjacent to mountains common to many locales in settings as disparate as the city of Pasadena and the state of Montana. The smooth, round edges of the cougar's body suggest the fluid movement of this predatory animal in action in its natural environment. A cougar image symbolizes the wildness of the urban environment and protection offered by the building upon which it appears.
