DESCRIPTION
In Forward Motion, Gordon Huether created metal awnings enhanced by glass, including a canopy marking the main entrance to the building. The modern design of the canopy references CalTech and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and gives the art project a futuristic look. The dichroic glass running behind the fluted glass give the doors a kinetic quality by creating reflective and transmissive light effects simultaneously, depending on the angle of viewing and the light source. The key component, the entrance canopy to the office building has various dichroic glass elements embedded within it, offering an ever changing play of colors in the artwork, as well as reflecting onto the sidewalk as the sun passes during the day, while creative lighting will illuminate the artwork for a nighttime presence.
