Harlequinade - Chef

DESCRIPTION

The artist team East Los Streetscapers, under the leadership of Wayne Healy, designed twenty-five Harlequinade sculptures to decorate the light poles found throughout Pasadena's Playhouse District. The artist designed each steel wrap with a unique design referencing the brightly colored diamond shapes of the Harlequin character often found in theater. While these diamond cut outs represent the comedic character's brightly adorned costume and mask, the vertical edges of the exterior octagonal cylinder surrounding the light pole symbolize the drape-like movement of the stage curtain. Solar powered lighting illuminates the colorful wraps and beams of light shine through the diamond shapes, adding a glowing element to the Playhouse District at night. The School of Culinary Arts and the resident community of fine restaurants are represented by the chef's art. Some people like to eat and some people like to dine.
