Mt. Wilson at Dusk

DESCRIPTION

The husband and wife team of Ray Tuner and Sally Storch collaborated to create a dual mural project capturing the Pasadena landscape. In Turner's Mt. Wilson at Dusk mural, the artist addresses the concepts of landscape and topography in a straightforward way. After photographing views of the site from the roof of an adjacent building, Turner rendered the ruggedness and golden light that is uniquely Pasadena. Referencing paintings of the plein air school, Turner's work shows the city dwarfed by the San Gabriel Mountains yet still distinct in the foreground, as if some sort of compromise had been worked out.
