DESCRIPTION
This exhibition features artwork by Pasadena Unified School District students selected from the district's annual all-school exhibit, "No Boundaries." The work for 2007-2008, done by students ranging from kindergarten through grade 12 participating in arts education programs at 18 PUSD schools, was carefully chosen for two exhibitions, on display for six months each, by a panel of Pasadena Arts & Culture Commissioners and community arts professionals. This display of local student art represents the City of Pasadena's commitment to the collaborative partnership among PUSD, the City and its arts and culture institutions to provide a high quality, sequential, standards-based arts curriculum to all students. The City Hall exhibit is called "Bridging Boundaries" because it reflects the "bridge" between the school district and the City. Imaginative collages and large murals embody the array of visual creativity incorporated into local classrooms. Abstract designs visualized by first graders hang next to emotionally captivating black and white images photographed by local high school students. The diversity of media and subject matter presented on the walls outside City Council chambers offer visitors a chance to see the efforts of the partners, the students, their parents, teachers, principals and the community to strengthen and promote the arts and the vital role they play in all our lives.
